Preview: Design the Future – Students building for locals with disability

August 10 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Design the Future is in full swing this week, and we’d love to have you stop by! Participating in the program are some inspiring high school students, KU student coaches, and project partners–local individuals with physical disabilities who are passionate about mentorship. They’re currently building their low-resolution prototypes, and the project partners are almost as excited as the students.

You are invited to come by to observe this week if you’re available:

  • Saturday 8/10 5:45 – 8 pm – Burge Union Forum AB – Design Expo: Students present final prototypes, speak on the journey they’ve completed, and thank their project partners

Design the Future is a 6-day, immersive design thinking summer program where high schoolers design and build solutions to real challenges faced by local individuals living with physical disabilities. Students receive over 50 hours of design and manufacturing mentorship from university student coaches, design and engineering experts, and those living with disabilities. Design the Future began at Stanford University in 2015, developed in collaboration with the Institute of Design (d.school) and K12 Lab. We’re launching at KU, and for the first time outside of California, this year August 5-10. Please watch our short video to see for yourself!
